Hi Everyone, Now that I have learnt about the upload widget : runbasic.proboards82.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1200265517Thank you Alyce and all others I would like to know if is possible to download ? I'm busy trying to make a web site to share photos with friends about a 5 days hike we've just made. Each friend must be able to access my RB site, uploads her/his photos, and download the photos deposited by the others. @+

If your site displays the photos, users can right click and choose "save picture as." Will that suffice?

Well, for me, programming (in LB or C for example) and making websites (even fairly interactive ones) are two VERY different activities. On the other hand, Run BASIC appears to be a blend of both activities. This is a very new concept to me, as well as exciting and challenging. So what I mean is that I have to make a "paradigm shift" (as my old teacher used to say), i.e. learn to think differently. I certainly don't mean that your product is not going to work on the web .... in runbasic.com/ you say : Run BASIC Personal Server is an all-in-one system that makes programming for the web easy and fun.Yes, I agree, but only if you have never programmed the web before . Of course, I only speak from personal experience, and may be wrong... @+

Actually, I have programmed web stuff before, and I still think RB is fun and very easy to use The way I incorporate downloads is I have a downloads page, which has the names of the files I've added to the server to download. You have to right-click on the link and hit "Save File As", because if you just click it, the web browser thinks it's just text and displays it as such.

Any type of file can be downloaded with httpget$(), (at least the file types i've tried), 'download mp3 file mp3$ = httpget$("http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/worldservice/docarchive/doc_20080129-1642.mp3") open "downloadtest.mp3" for binary as #bin print #bin, mp3$ close #bin print "Download complete."
You could put your photo links into a clickable table and download using the method above, which I use in an application to automatically save podcast files. Mike. EDIT: Don't try the example on a dial-up connection, the mp3 file is 10MB EDIT2: This is not what you meant, is it. I download from the BBC to my server, you want an alternative download method 'FROM' your server to visitors

EDIT2: This is not what you meant, is it. I download from the BBC to my server, you want an alternative download method 'FROM' your server to visitors I think what alix wants is to be able to control the "Content-type" header, which is what I use do PHP when I want the download dialog box to pop up. I do hope later versions of RBP will let us have a HEADER command, ala CSSCLASS and TITLEBAR. That would make this kind of this possible, as well as dynamically, directly generating RSS feeds or images.

The HEADER command is a useful idea, but I was under the impression that Alix want an individual link to produce a download when clicked on, without producing a whole new page. Is Javascript good for that sort of thing? -Carl

I didn't say a new window, but a new page. -Carl Got my terms mixed up, sorry. It wouldn't/shouldn't require a new page.

If you could use the hypothetical HEADER command to change the Content-Disposition header so the content was set to "download" and the piped out the data with RAW, I'm pretty sure instead of loading a new page it would open up a Save/View dialog box.
