Hi,
I just finished up a small RB project and moved it from my development pc to my server. When I access the site from my development pc, the CSS I used in the program is all out of alignment. If I run a local copy of RB on the development pc the CSS looks great, but on the server it looks very wrong. The only difference is that the development pc is windows xp home, and the server is MS server 2000. I am wondering what might be the cause. I can only think it might be that the win2000 server only has IE 6 on it and I'm not sure if RB uses some of the IE features? Your thoughts please.

Benjamin,
I don't know much about CSS but I'm going to take a shot in the dark here and say that this is a hardware issue. More specifically the number of pixels on your screen. If I were a betting man I'd wager that your 2 systems have different screen resolutions. That being said there probably is a way in CSS to detect what the screen settings are and adjust your code accordingly. I'll leave that for the CSS capable programmers to answer. <shrug>

The OS where RB is running on does not have anything to do with it.... Do you have a link to see what exactly is happening?

I took some screen shots last night, I'll post them tonight when I'm home and I'll also post a link to the site.
Basically it's a two column css layout with a header image. On the xp machine with RB running locally the layout is about 800 width by 900 height with a boarder all around. The right hand column has two div sections, the left is the content section. On the win2000 machine the 800x900 with is fine, but the div's I'm using are laying on the boarder, so part of the div is inside of the body of the page and the other half is outside of the body. One div has a text box in it and that text box is half in and half out of the div.The font for the page is also wrong, it's allot smaller and it seems to be the wrong font. So it seems to be partly an alignment issue with the css, not sure why it would change so much. I'm using IE8 to view the page off of the server.

WOW! You have done a lot of work. One of the problems with the web is that all browsers are not the same. For that reason it pays not to get too fancy. Just my personal preference but I always try and keep things simple. The simpler the better and the more success you will have that it will work on all browsers. You should also test your page on all browsers. It may work on one and not another.
You may want to begin with something like this. It's simple and your chances go up dramatically that it will work everywhere.
<CENTER><TABLE BORDER="0" CELLPADDING="8" CELLSPACING="0" WIDTH="70%"> <TR><TD BGCOLOR="#FFCCFF"><A HREF="http://76.172.43.218:8008"><B><FONT SIZE="5" FACE="Arial">Regina's Picture Site</FONT></B></A><BR> <BR> </FONT><A HREF="#"><B><BR><BR><BR><BR> Welcome to my website!</FONT></B></A></TD> </TR><TR><TD>
<TABLE BORDER="0" CELLPADDING="0" CELLSPACING="0" WIDTH="100%"><TR> <TD VALIGN="TOP"> <B><FONT FACE="Arial"> Thanks for visiting my web page. I've created this site so I can share my favorite pictures I've taken. You can use the pictures for your web site or anything else you like. If you can, send me an email and let me know how you've used it. I'd like to hear what you think of my pictures too.</FONT></B></TD> <TD WIDTH="8"></TD> <TD VALIGN="TOP"> <TABLE BORDER="0" CELLPADDING="0" CELLSPACING="0" WIDTH="100%" BGCOLOR="#FFCCFF"> <TR><TD WIDTH="100%" BGCOLOR="fuchsia"> <P ALIGN="CENTER"><B><FONT SIZE="4" FACE="Arial">Search </TD></TR><TR><TD WIDTH="100%"> <INPUT TYPE="TEXT" NAME="s" SIZE="25" ID="s"> </TD></TR><TR><TD WIDTH="100%"> <CENTER> <INPUT TYPE="SUBMIT" NAME="submit" VALUE="Search" ID="searchsubmit"> </TD></TR></TABLE>
<TABLE BORDER="0" CELLPADDING="0" CELLSPACING="0" WIDTH="100%"> <TR><TD WIDTH="100%" BGCOLOR="#FF66FF"> <P ALIGN="CENTER"> <B><FONT SIZE="4" FACE="Arial"> Categories </TD></TR><TR><TD WIDTH="100%" BGCOLOR="#FFCCFF"><P ALIGN="CENTER"> <A HREF="?_s=NQYkoUEHZsGFVhXR&_k=HgBFzhRu&1" onclick="submitFormTriggeringCallback('form1328', '1', "href" ); return false;">Nature</A>(1)<BR> <A HREF="?_s=NQYkoUEHZsGFVhXR&_k=HgBFzhRu&2" onclick="submitFormTriggeringCallback('form1328', '2', "href" ); return false;">Food</A>(0)<BR> <A HREF="?_s=NQYkoUEHZsGFVhXR&_k=HgBFzhRu&3" onclick="submitFormTriggeringCallback('form1328', '3', "href" ); return false;">Gardens</A>(0)<BR> <A HREF="?_s=NQYkoUEHZsGFVhXR&_k=HgBFzhRu&4" onclick="submitFormTriggeringCallback('form1328', '4', "href" ); return false;">Roads</A>(0)<BR> <A HREF="?_s=NQYkoUEHZsGFVhXR&_k=HgBFzhRu&5" onclick="submitFormTriggeringCallback('form1328', '5', "href" ); return false;">Statues</A>(0)<BR> <A HREF="?_s=NQYkoUEHZsGFVhXR&_k=HgBFzhRu&6" onclick="submitFormTriggeringCallback('form1328', '6', "href" ); return false;">Seascapes</A>(0) </TD></TR></TABLE></TD></TR></TABLE></TD></TR></TABLE>
I didn't have the background images, but they can be added easily.
HTH Have a great day.

Before I take the easy way out, i'm going to upgrade the server to Windows XP, I have a feeling this is gonna fix it.

It should not matter (in theory) which server you're running on. Make sure that you have exactly the same files on both servers.

Hello,
What i found is you can refresh the page via your browser refresh button and when the page reloads it's correct. Another thing is if I log into RB and set RB's CSS to homecomputer and then run the program inside of the RB editor the css looks fine, but if I change the RB CSS option to any other theme like standard and then run the program it looks out of alignment again. I am still thinking it's because it's windows 2000, so I will update and then try it out again.
I also viewed the original templete in IE6 on the window 2000 pc and it looked fine, I also downloaded the template and ran it from the windows 2000 pc and it looked fine. So I'm stumped, I am using the HTML statement to load the CSS file for each page. Maybe I will change it and try it with the CSS statement in RB. Then I'll upgrade.
I also double checked that I had all the files, it only uses 3 images and I did get all of them on the server.

CSS is controlled by the browser and not by the O/S.
You will have to make sure to use the same default settings at the server as you do at home, since the CSS used by RB will interact with the CSS of your own.

Something I just remembered.... as I had similar problems once.... make sure you always upload .bas and css files in ASCII mode and not binary mode, what is the default setting for most FTP clients etc.. Usin binary mode can result in really strange side FX, like the ones you are experiencing. But your website shows up fine now, so I assume it is fixed now anyway...

I just noticed that it is fixed now, I set the RB style to PDA witch is basically no CSS style. I'm not sure exactly what was causing this, but I hope this fix will stay.
