Hi,
I got sent here from the LB forum.
Some time ago I asked over there how to transfer my LB software to Blackberry.
The potential buyers indicate they would want to use the software sooner or later on their Blackberries.
In the mean time the wish list has grown. Now there seems to be demand for Blackberry, Ipod and mobile phones in general.
My question is now, would Runbasic suitable to write the software so it would run then on all mentioned systems?
Has anybody done this so far?
Thanks Gunter

The Run BASIC Server will run on Windows, MAC OS X and Linux, the clients can be any O/S and Browser combination. There is no support for running the RB Server on Mobile Operating Systems.

Thanks,
I begin to understand. You mean the users need to be online in order to use the software via the browser?
Just switch on the Blackberry and use it while on an aeroplane would not work then?
Since that is exactly what the users want. Use it while travelling.
In their office they can use the existing software on their PC, no problem.

"The software" is an app running on a server. You can access the app (say, on your office network) via Blackberry or smartphone -- anything with a browser -- and thereby "use" the application. That would include even programming through the RB IDE, if your smartphone supports making that kind of through-browser input. If your phone will read and allow you to answer web mail, like gmail, then you're good to go for programming.

It's a web application server and programming environment, not a mobile device development tool. Still, if it lets them use applications out on the road, it may not be a big deal if they can't use them on an airplane, yet. -Carl

That is why they want to have it on their mobile devices rather than on a PC.

It appears to me RB needs a fully supported browser to work correctly. I do not know about Ipods, but I am pretty sure the other devices do not have a full browser. I hear FireFox is working on a mobile browser, maybe that will be the answer. An input via a text box always returns zero and the IDE is unusable. I brought this up before and have payed with it more runbasic.proboards82.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=710&page=1I have tried it on an Ipaq with WinMob 6 (fully updated) and whatever the browser is on a Pantech Matrix with ATT edge. Has anyone else been able to make RB work on a mobile device?

Safari on the iPhone works fine, but you wouldn't want to do any development with it except maybe emergency on-the-road patches. I used to use it (run apps) from my Treo 650. Worked okay, but it makes sense to design apps for the small form factor no matter which mobile device is used. -Carl

What is the OS on the Treo? I may have to get rid of my Ipaq.

The Treo uses the PalmOS and the Blazer browser, but you can install Opera and probably a couple of other ones if you like.

Well, it looks like I need to find another browser for WinMob. If I do I will let every one know how it works.
