Hi, Mike. I followed your link from Run BASIC Wiki to your server. I used visitor/visitor password and entered 'Family Messaging.' I typed in a message stating the site looks good in both IE and FireFox, pressed the Add Message button, and was immediately dumped back to the LogIn page. I logged back in and there was no record of my message. So I guess I'll just have to say 'hello' here. Janet

Hey, Mike! You want to rent space on your RB server? I've gotr a 19.2kbaud dialup with dynamic IP, and it has some inadequacies as an RB server box.

Hi Janet, no there was no message from you but I did get a message from Bill so the system seems to be working! I was doing some editing yesterday so I may have shut down the server whilst you were on-line. Will leave the server on today from now till about 2100 GMT if you wish to try again. I'm still learning and I have to access via a proxy server which sometimes seems to block some operations and other times lets them through, so that makes testing difficult. I've learned the hard way that what works on localhost doesn't always work via the internet.
Jerry, I too have a dynamic DNS but use free no-ip.com to get a domain name. My server is only on-line for short periods so sorry I can't offer space to rent but if you want server space for testing purposes you can borrow some project space. However I can't guarantee any up-time.
PM me if you want to discuss.
Mike
EDIT: There is of course the US/UK time difference to consider!

Thanks for the solicited offer, Mike. I'll poke around for alternatives. One of my sisters has an always-ON broadband connection, and might be enticed into running an RB server for me. Still have to get my apps polished up, so there's plenty of time to get things together.

Hi Mike:
Nice site, only 1 I tried that was present and working. Didn't try the login as showed family members type, but hey at least the site was there.
One said should be up most the time? Wasn't.
Any other RB sites around?
Like to see how others present their displays so can get more ideas.
Thanks.

Hi johnk1, I haven't found any more yet and as you say the others never seem to be up. Maybe now RB is released more will appear - to view and learn from. My RB site is really just a collection of bits used whilst trying to get my head around getting stuff to work during beta testing, but I will be extending it, when I am more relaxed with RB. People seem reluctant to put anything up, even a basic 'I'm here' home page! Security issues (real or imaginary) may also be a factor. Looking forward to seeing your RB server soon, place a link on the RB Wiki Mike.

Thanks for putting it up. Imaginary mostly. The Run BASIC site at runbasic.com is itself hosted on a version of Run BASIC, and we haven't had any issues worth mentioning. If you aren't running a service that's vulnerable to attack you aren't going to have anything dramatic happen. Run BASIC has one nice advantage to start in that it isn't vulnerable to buffer overrun attacks and things like that because it uses virtual arrays in its webserver code. Yes, I hope RB testers can be encouraged to put some of their work online. -Carl
