Hello all,
I have been writing a web os in run basic similar to these
www.dreamcss.com/2009/07/web-operating-system-applications.html
During that time I have been developing the operating system interface and the applications that it will use.
One of the interesting things that I have found is that instead of publishing each application one can just run it and render it using the run and render commands.
This is convenient if you want to have a central authentication authority project that then runs the desired web application in side it.
I have thought of several uses for this technique.
Have a login program as your default application so that when you point your browser at http://Your RB Server:PortNumber you will be brought to your log in screen.
Once loged in you could display a list of available applications in a list box and a run button tat allows that application to be run using the run and render commands.
There is no need to publish these applications and you have your security layer.
Further more you can add a function to each of your applications so that user information can be passes to them from the login program.
I have a web os that is trying to mimic the features of a full blown os in run basic.
I am looking for help to speed up the process of getting it completed.
If you are interested in helping with the project I am looking for people to pick up and work on the following parts of the system.
Update system; for the web os to receive updates from a central server that runs run basic. This would update the code on the server running the web os to latest version and download any addition image files or java script files for the package.
An application repository; for managing making available those packages for download and install on to the server.
Additional familiar applications for making the web os feel like your personal computer such as an excel like application and a power point like application. I have already built a word like application that has the familiar editing features without having to deal with the html mark up.
If you are interested in helping I would like to get you on board as soon as possible so that we can have this project up and running showing how capable run basic really is.
I have posted some screen shots of the web os here and you can read more about what I have going on there.
