Is Run BASIC some sort of alternative to what is refereded to as AJAX?
Edit: this board needs a novice area, for questions like this... Thanks, jfb

The General board is a fine place to ask this question. Bumping for an answer.

The answer is -- most likely. Run BASIC is an excellent choice for someone wanting to develop a web-based application, but not having expertise in AJAX. It is far easier (I estimate by a factor of 10) to learn the environment and actually produce workable apps in RB than in AJAX -- especially for someone just getting his or her feet wet in this particular puddle. Try it. If you don't like it, try AJAX. You'll be back....

Thanks, jfb Ajax is a technique, not a web programming system by itself. At some point in the not too distant future we will add some Ajax-based ideas to Run BASIC. -Carl

That's why, for a person starting out, RB is the better choice.
To use the "techniques" in AJAX, you have to know JavaScript, XML, HTML, and CSS, at a minimum, and mySQL and PHP for trick stuff, and be fluent in all of those. "Fluency" in a programming language is defined (by me) as the ability to sit down and write programs with no more references than the language syntax examples provided by the programming IDE. In other words -- no need to seek help, to get the job done.
You can be productive in RB in a week, fluent in three weeks. AJAX fluency would take about year for concentrated (salaried) effort, and maybe three years for the unsalaried solo producer.
