My RunBasic Dietary Management System has just had it's 30,000th transaction in just over 1 year of use. The system manages the employee meal accounts, patient meal reporting and meals on wheels ordering and accounting.
The program uses 3 SQLite db's with 28 tables total. Early on I had some problems with SQLite and read/write errors. These errors were caused by me using an outside SQLite manager to search & sort the db when my clients were using the program heavily. I stopped being stupid and the errors stopped as well.
I am the Dietary Director of a small critical access hospital in Kansas. My IT and programming experience is limited to TRS-80 basic and Lotus Approach Database. I have needs which my IT dept could not meet so I filled them with RunBasic.
Currently I have the following rb programs running at our hospital;
Dietary Supply - Allows the med staff to order what they need from Dietary Services
Dietary Management System - As described above.
Maintenance Work Orders - Allows the staff to report maintenance problems and e-mails the maintenance staff as a work order is created.
All are internal only as our IT Department distrusts me allowing rb into the wild, wild internet. I am working on that.
Further development of rb would help as I continue to expand this and other programs I use at the hospital. In particular the following enhancements would help;
SSL
MySQL or other more robust db
Enhancements to the Table methods
Clean url at application level
I have relied heavily on existing projects, specifically, RunWiki2, RunWikiNG, and RunWikiAW (No sense reinventing the wheel) and I wish to thank the authors for their help.
The RunBasic forum and wiki has also provided vast and useful assistance. I am saddened to see a slowdown in the post on both sites.
I find rb very easy to use and would recommend the program to anyone who needs to write a web application.
