Hello,
I have just started playing again with RB for the first time since the very early days. I am looking to 'webify' an application I developed for a study module in (horrible) java.
My present main computer is an inspiron 1521 running Vista. On this computer Rb takes over 1 second to refresh the screen (even as localhost - ie on the same computer) when browsing with Firefox. Using Internet Explorer 8 the refresh time is fine, as is RBfree under linux on the same box.
On my older desktop computer Firefox runs RB quickly. I have yet to try it on my win98 portable!
Two points. First if you are coming new to RB and are put off by the slow refresh rate, try a different browser. Second, has anyone had similar experiences with Firefox and Vista, and is there a solution?
Also, do any of the editors on the wiki site support multiple file editing? At the moment I am having to log in twice to edit a main application file and a secondary program run from the main program. Alyce, do you have a favourite editor?
Thanks, Colin McMurchie

RB 1.01 has the ability to refresh the code from disk before you run it.
This way you can code in Notepad++ for instance, which supports editing multiple files at once.
Firefox is faster than IE, since it has an improved JS engine.
The initial run of an RB application is slow, but subsequent runs without changing code are starting up faster, due to being already compiled in memory.

Hello Stefan,
thanks for the information. I tend to use Textpad as my editor, but I was hoping to avoid the need to manually refresh the main file each time it was run.
FF with RB is still very slow on this computer (K-meleon is even worse), but it is no big deal to use IE for the moment.

If you have published the application you do not need to launch RB in the browser at all.
You can run directly through the web address.
You just will not see any error messages as if you would if run from the RB IDE.
