My server has stopped working before. I was able to get it going by simply restarting my router or changing a router setting. Now I can't get it going. My router config was saved. Reloading the saved config didn't work. I went through all the router settings changing them one at a time. Nothing worked. Restarting everything didn't do the trick. Switching from port 80 to 8008 didn't work.
Last time I had this kind of trouble, enabling the QoS (Quality of Service feature under the Router's Applications and Gaming) made everything start working again. I don't know why that worked before, but, like I said, I went through all the router settings changing them one at a time and nothing worked.
My RB programs all work fine locally. Nothing has changed there for months. I tried disabling the Windows Firewall (XP), and changing Norton settings. I thought about interference from a TiVo server, but both TiVo and RB worked together in the past. And shutting down the TiVo programs didn't help.
I wonder if it has something to do with IE8. The last time my server worked was before I installed IE8. Any ideas?

What do your port forwarding rules say? Makes sure the rule for RB really forwards the port you´ve set in the RB settings correctly to the right IP. If you optain IPs via dhcp in your network, the IPs can change... for example when you connect another machine like tivo that also obtains an IP. (advanced settings in your router allow you to assign fixed IPs to some machines based on the MAC address though...)
And if I get you right, you are running windows firewall and Norton firewall at the same time. Thats a source for problems anyway! Only use one firewall at a time.... so either windows firewall or norton.. but never both together.
Also make sure the port for RB is allowed for in- and outbound traffic in the firewall.

I never got this working. It was working before, I didn't change anything except the upgrade to IE8. Every RB and router setting is the same as before. Everytime I use www.whatismyip.com/ it shows the same IP address.

Does your home server have a static IP address on your local LAN? I had this sort of problem recently and it wasn't my Internet-facing IP address, but the local LAN address of my server that changed. I rebooted the server after a Windows update and it was assigned a different IP address by my wireless router which usually doesn't happen. The router, however, was configured to forward to the OLD IP address. At the time, I was in a hurry, so I just updated the forwarding address in the router setup. The best long term solution, though, is to give the server a static IP address. David. I never got this working. It was working before, I didn't change anything except the upgrade to IE8. Every RB and router setting is the same as before. Everytime I use www.whatismyip.com/ it shows the same IP address.

When I had a problem several months ago, I tried a static IP address and it didn't work. Now it works! Thanks for your help.

Weird stuff going on here. After a computer restart I didn't have internet access. I restarted the router and cable modem. Then I got access by changing the router settings back to "Automatic Configuration - DHCP" but, of course, the server stopped working. I tried going back to static a few times and restarting the router again and again (and restarting the server). I could not gain internet access while at static. Now I'm at "Automatic Configuration - DHCP" and suddenly the server started working. I don't get it.
(I posted a separate thread about the fact that some of my programs display duplicate tables that are empty ... even though they never did before (pre IE8) and the programming hasn't changed.)

That's strange. I have my home router setup for DHCP (automatic). It hands out IP addresses above a certain range -- say 100. Below that, the addresses are reserved for static assignment. Weird stuff going on here. After a computer restart I didn't have internet access. I restarted the router and cable modem. Then I got access by changing the router settings back to "Automatic Configuration - DHCP" but, of course, the server stopped working. IE8 has a compatibility mode, witch will force it to work like IE7. I would try that. Also, what model of router is it? Is it using custom firmware? Have you tried RB on another computer with IE8? or if you Windows XP,Vista,7 has System Restore on it, I would go back to before you upgraded IE8 and see if it works.

My understanding of global ip address and local ip addresses ... and how to access info about them for my situation ... is more clear now than it was before. So I'm posting a few simple things here in case someone gets in the same boat. To many this may seem very elementary. wiki.answers.com/Q/Difference_between_global_IP_address_and_Local_IP_addressI don't use a Static IP and sometimes when I reboot the computer, the local ip address changes. When I want to know the current local ip address, I right-click on the little 2-monitor taskbar icon for "Local Area Connection", select "Status", and go to the "Support" tab. You can also double-left-click to go directly to Status. If I see that the local ip address has changed, I adjust the Port Forwarding in my Router settings accordingly. If the "Local Area Connection" icon is not on your taskbar, you can access Network Connections via the Control Panal. The "Repair" feature has also been helpful from another computer on my network when I want it to re-connect after a change.
