I have a site which is hosted on a basic (shared) plan at lunarpages, on a linux box.
As I first learned to program using BASIC I love the idea of Run BASIC and what to try it out to see if I can write some apps that I have had in my head, without having to learn PHP!
When I asked Lunarpages if I could install RB, they've asked me for a list of installation requirements, but I haven't found anything concise on this board that I can send to them (PHP x, MySQL y, etc), along with an arquive, and say "install that please".
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Paul

1) you have to have access to the unix/linux shell 2) you have to download the RB headless version of RB. (as your host company is not going to give you xterm access and full privileges to install the normal RB linux version) -ask Carl for it 3)unzip it on your HOME directory. -assuming that your web directory is a subdirectory of the home directory, RB will be available for all your web domains and the directory security keeps normal in the home directory. 4)your port 8008 should be enabled to start and run the application. some suppliers aks you to buy a dedicated ip in order to use that range of ports. 5)start the rb, check the thread in runbasic.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=personalserver&action=display&thread=10776)test it, open your browser in localhost:8008 or inyourdomainname.com:8008

RB has no dependencies, there is all included in the package. For Linux hosts there should be no problem with the latest kernel builds.

RB has no dependencies, there is all included in the package. For Linux hosts there should be no problem with the latest kernel builds. This is essentially right. Of course when v1.02 comes out with support for database servers those servers will need to be accessible either locally or over a LAN/Internet. I'd say your provider will need to provide you with at least 256MB of RAM for your account, and they need to be willing to open a port (like 8080, 8008, etc.). The best thing is if you can purchase a Virtual Private Server account so that you can run Run BASIC as your web server or run it behind Apache. -Carl
