When setting the Resources root path in "Preferences" to a local server, no images are displayed. I have one instance of RB running on my desktop at work for my plant to access the programs I've written. The Projects root and Resources root are set to the defaults of C:\rbp101\projects and C:\rbp101\public respectively. Within my programs I use a variable, filepath$, that points to files on our local server. This arrangement works fine. After another facility became interested in using the same programs, they purchased RB and installed in on a desktop at their facility. I set up a folder on their local server and pointed both lines in the preferences tab to that folder (ex: \\xxxxmsxx\zzzzz\rbp101\projects and \\xxxxmsxx\zzzzz\rbp101\public). Under this configuration, no images are displayed. I ran the following simple program and it confirmed that the paths were correct: print ProjectsRoot$ print ResourcesRoot$ One of the images in the public folder is a static banner picture. Most of the other images are graphics rendered within the program (bar graphs, etc). When checking the \\xxxxmsxx\zzzzz\rbp101\public folder, the rendered images were there but would not display in the program. I ended up changing the Resources root back to c:\rbp101\public and now the images display as they are supposed to. John "Psycho" Siejkowski

Thanks. I have to give that a try. In the meantime try mapping the path to a drive letter and changing your settings to use that to see if it works.

Ok, changed from server address to drive letter and it worked Then I went back and changed it to server address again and it continued to work I started to think I may have had a typo the first time but my validation program showed the correct output. Not sure what to think about it now (unless I was seeing what I wanted to see ) I'll test it again later today and then tomorrow morning. If it continues to work I'll just let it be. Could be a problem with Windows authentication, when the UNC path is connected. What does the event log on the client (running RB) and on the server (file share) tell you

Stefan,
I had to wait for the person who is hosting RB on their desktop to return from vacation to answer this. The server folder does not contain a web.log or an error.log. The desktop that is hosting the actual server did not have an error.log and looking through the web.log, nothing stands out to me. I looked at the day before I made the change as well as the day of and the log simply lists the default GET commands (ie: xxx.xx.xxx.xxx: default GET /resources/diebanner3.JPG -> 200 text/html Mon, 09 Mar 2009 15:01:06 GMT)

*** UPDATE *** I received a call this morning about the same problem occurring again. The preferences were still mapped to the server address (\\xxxxmsxx\bbbbb\....etc.) and the static image used for a banner was displaying but the graphics that are generated and rendered within the program (bar graphs, etc) were once again showing up with the red X indication a broken link. I switched the preferences back to the drive letter of the same server and now all images are displaying properly again John "Psycho" Siejkowski

Are you running RB behind Apache?

The server folder does not contain a web.log or an error.log. No, there are no log files, it is the Windows event log I am referring to, use eventvwr.msc to check it.

Network shares mapped to a local drive are in the local zone security of IE, UNC paths are in the intranet zone security. I would check the difference of the two zones, I know that the intranet zone is more restricted than the local zone, but less restricted than the internet zone.

Stefan, The person who's desktop is running the server has been out and I only have access to the RB server via their IP address (no desktop sharing). Once they return I will see what info I can get from the windows event log you mentioned.
***EDIT*** Sorry for not replying Votan, no, this is running on a regular desktop environment. No Apache involved.

Ok,
The user was back today so I had them run eventvwr.msc on their desktop. Neither of us is familiar with the results from this program so I had them look for anything that may be connected with RB and they didn't find anything that was readily apparent.
Since my last post on this subject, the images again stopped rendering even when mapped via a drive letter to the network drive. I once again changed the preferences to the local C: drive and left it at that.

I hate to come back to this one but it still seems like something happening within RB (or some network issue that I just don't understand or know how to fix) This was first prompted when another plant purchased RB to run a program I had written. The RB server is running on someone's PC at that facility but I put all the files on their local server and pointed the preferences for the Projects root and Resources root to the matching folder on their local network. At my facility, I host the RB server on my desktop and had the Projects root and Resources root set to their default of c:\rbp101\etc. I store the files for my programs on our local server and use a variable within my programs to point to the appropriate folder on our network drive. Recently, I changed the preferences of RB to point to a similar network path as my sister plant mentioned earlier. Within days, I started seeing the same problem. Anywhere from 1 to several days of everything working, the rendered images suddenly stop showing and display the red "x". Even the images uploaded using Neal's runWikiNG stop displaying. Without modifying anything within IE or tinkering with any network permissions, I simply go back to the RB preferences tab and hit "Apply" without making any changes. This seems to reset something and all images immediately begin to work again for everyone that accesses the program. It seems that anything I put in the ProjectsRoot$ folder continues to work even though both folders (Projects & Public) are in the same network folder. Any other thoughts that might help?
