Not sure where this should be posted, but I just noticed that there seems to be a pretty great difference in RB application speed depending on the browser being used. On my machine at least, with all other factors being the same, I.E. 7 seems to render much faster than Firefox. The app being tested is the"calcCSS" sample project that ships with RB. (The browsers are running side by side, so I'm sure it is NOT a RunBASIC problem!) Anyone else experience the same thing? ...are the supposedly faster rendering speeds of Firefox just a myth? -Doc-

Howdy Doc,
I'm guessing you're using Firefox 2. The default settings are to hold off on rendering until a given amount of the content is loaded. It can be tweaked via about:config or the Fasterfox extension.
For what it's worth, the calcCSS project is rendering too fast to be noticed in both IE7 and Fx2.

Hey Bill, Yepper, I'm running FF 2.
To be clear, maybe I should add that I'm talking about the time required to actually display the results of various calculations....
I'm not seeing any lag in the actual page rendering, both browsers are pretty much instantaneous as far the final page content goes.
But......!
FF takes at least twice (maybe three times) as long to display the results of the calculations, which makes it seem like RB is really slow instead of things getting bogged down by the browser.
FWIW, I've been using FF as my primary browser since the very 1st beta (back when it was called Phoenix) and I'm really surprised at what I'm seeing here.

Edit: Ooophs! Should have mentioned that the app speed is right on par with IE when run using Opera.

I run RB on Firefox 2.0.0.9 on two different machines, one XP box and one Vista box. Firefox on the XP is pretty snappy, but on Vista is has the sort of sluggishness that you describe David. Are you running Vista?

Hello Carl, No sir, thankfully I'm running XP Home edition and doing the tests directly on the same machine as the RB server is running. I first noticed it while testing over my private LAN here at home and thought it was just network related, only to find that neither the network or RunBASIC are at fault. BTW, thanks for building RB Carl! ...it might be just the thing to keep me programming some after all. -Doc-
