I have an application in mind where RunBasic might be an excellent fit but I need to communicate with some hardware devices. I need either Modbus serial, Modbus TCP, or plain old RS-232. I can probably code the Modbus protocol well enough for my needs, but I need access to a Ethernet port or to a serial port. Ethernet would be preferred, like a Sockets interface. I know that LB4 could probably do this, but does RB have any of these capabilities yet?

RBP does not have hardware I/O yet, but Carl mentioned, that it is on the feature list.

Bill, Run BASIC does not have any hardware interface as yet, but it is possible to do a workaround if your requirements are relatively simple. 'mackrackit' has a simple demo: www.mackrackit.com/mac/www/run_basic/RB_REMOTE.htmlIt is possible to control IO cards like the Vellerman K8055 remotely but for now a file data exchange is necessary. That is not too problematic if you use a ramdisk. HTH Mike.
