Alix, I'm downloading the page in a separate browser window right now. It's about 60% done, after 8 minutes at 19.2kbaud dialup. It seems to be one of those pages where the graphics "thumbnails" are resized with HTML commands, so the whole big picture has to be downloaded to see the little version of the image. ...... There, done. 14 minutes, 1.56Meg.... The bungee jumper must have hit bottom, long ago....

Use IrfanView to batch convert the original images, create smaller copies, in addition reduce DPI. It is very easy to use and free, the latest version is 4.10, I think

I don't know if thumbnails would be suitable for my program... Thumbnails are small image and they can serve as image links, linking to full sized images that one could then view and download. In the photoshare.bas case, users must be able to view AND upload photos easely. They must be able to send their photos to my RB server and make them available to other users. If they need to send both thumbnails and full sized photo, then that makes photo sharing much too inconvenient. @+

Looks like an opportunity for a Run BASIC program -- ThumbnailGenerator! Hmmm.... I'm not a graphics dude, but.... How about read the file in, render the graphic offscreen, capture the rendering, shrink it down, save the shrunken version? Can you graphics geeks do that? Reminds me of the early days of the web. About 1995, I came across a site a gal put up to brag about her Mensa membership. "A Celebration of Intelligence" was the name of the site, IIRC. It had a little photo of a bluebird coming in for a landing, as a logo. About 1x1.5 inches. It was a one-and-half Megabyte scan file, resized to fit as a little logo. Remember, in those days, 8.4kbaud modems were advertised as "screamers", and sold for about $350. On her computer, it worked just great, according to her rebuttal to my bemused email. BTW, it turns out that Mensa people have little appreciation for irony....

Thumbnails are small image and they can serve as image links, linking to full sized images that one could then view and download. That is what I had in mind. IrfanView has command line switches to convert images without user interaction. You could write the names of the images to convert to a file and let LB submit the file to IrfanView to convert the images. Some things to consider: - images from a digicam will result in file name collisions, if they are not renamed
- IrfanView can automatically rename the source files and create the thumbnails

"zoomcat I don't understand what you mean ? can you explain a bit more please ?" A windows computer first checks the hosts file when it tries to resolve a domain name. If you look in your hosts file (you can find it using the windows search feature) you will see as an example that localhost is associated with 127.0.0.1

Looks like Alyce has a Liberty BASIC tutorial on the subject. I don't think Run BASIC has the CallDLL command, but perhaps a LB program might be written that creates thumbnails from images in the upload gallery.

zoomcat : that sounded like an excellent idea. So I tried both Lan and Wan IP in the host file, unfortunately, it does not work.
turbov21 : this particular tutorial deals with BMP images, and myphotos are JPG. But there is a lot of other LB demos and tutorials about JPG file handling.
