I have been trying to launch my RB site for hours ... does not work, can't figure out why. This is what I have done: - Started Run BASIC server on my PC: yes - domain name with dynamic IP with //www.dyndns.com : yes (my router has even detected my dynamic host server) - open port 8008 with the " Add Custom Service" : yes - gave the LAN IP address of my PC so it can become the RB server : yes But Firefox keeps on telling me it cannot connect to alixbasix.is-a-geek.net:8008 I have a wireless Netgear Router DG834GT, maybe somebody on the forum has got the same one ? and miraculously, knows what the problem is Any help welcome, @+

Works fine for me. I am able to see your server just fine from here. Perhaps you are having the same problem that Mike has where your router doesn't allow you to see your site from behind your own firewall? -Carl I have been trying to launch my RB site for hours ... does not work, can't figure out why. Alix, It works for me too. Try accessing your site via an anonymous proxy, eg www.turbohide.com/As Carl said some routers do not allow you to access your server from the same computer that hosts the server. Its a pain but the only way I can do it is via a proxy. Mike.

Boxes for the picts flash the a white screen. Says connecting to localhost. I am using FireFox. From behind your router change: alixbasix.is-a-geek.net to the machines internal network IP. Example, I have to use 192.168.2.28 instead of www.mackrackit.com when I am inside of my network.

url$ = "http://localhost:8008/uploads/"+groupChoice$+"/"
This url will be the problem I think, localhost won't be seen from the internet.
Don't public files have to be in /public or /public/uploads? I dont have time tonight to test this out, sorry.
Mike.

The forums software is not rendering addresses including colons, to specify a port, correctly. As said before, files to be downloaded must be placed in the public folder or a subfolder of it. Be sure to use relative paths instead of full paths.

yes, but isn't I was assuming you have more than one machine on your network and you would be using machine #2 to veiw the site. the same as running your site locally ? I see that a lot in other peoples links. Are you using the URL tag?

One way to probably cure the issues with lan access to the server is to assign the perminate computers on the lan a static lan ip address instead of using the router. In the tcp/ip setup, assign an ip address and use the same dns server that the router uses. Then the internal computers should resolve the url name into the wan ip address and solve the problem.

Alix, below find a sample that should give you a hint on how to get rid of the full URLs and use relative URLs, which will work from anywhere.
files #dir, "public\*.jpg" isEmpty = #dir hasanswer() print isEmpty if isEmpty then maxCount = #dir rowcount() print maxCount for i = 1 to maxCount dummy$=#dir nextfile$() imgName$ = "../public/"; #dir name$() html "<p><img src="""; imgName$; """ width=""320"" hight=""240""></p>" print imgName$ next end if

zoomcat : my RB server has a static lan address and it uses the same two DNS address as in the router. It does not help Stefan : you are right, I got so bogged down into the server's problem that I forgot all about relative links ! Thanks to all ...I'll get there, eventually @+

Another workaround to try would be to edit the "hosts" file on your computers to have a line like below in it. This will make the computer resolve the domain name to the internal ip address.
192.168.1.5 alixbasix.is-a-geek.net

Not too long, considering your serving from your home PC (and that'll always be a bit slower). Very nice app.
