Alyce's RB WikiThis is a work in progress. It is based on Carl's original wiki code. It is simple stuff compared to Neal's amazing Run Wiki Next Generation (RunWikiNG). You can sign up for membership and test it. If I get the code into a useful, stable condition, I'll release it as open source. Remember: this is a WIP, so don't expect a lot.

Updated, fixed a bug, added a feature or two. I'm planning to add a link to "create new page" on the navbar. Hey, Carl is a member! Admin-only can see the memberlist of names and emails, but passwords are not visible. I'm still considering whether to add the ability to save multiple versions of a page to allow reversions. That appears to be standard for wikis.

Admin can now lock a page.
This is a lot of fun!

It'd be fun to see a members listing page. Is that possible?

It'd be fun to see a members listing page. Is that possible? Thanks for having a look! The code allows the admin to see the list of members. Coders could modify their own versions, of course. I hope to release the code soon. I want to be sure it isn't too buggy or difficult to understand before I share with the public. If anybody wants a preview, just PM and I'll share it. Still, Neal's runWikiNG is far above this simple offering. For a full-featured wiki, runWikiNG is the way to go.

I had some problems. In the end, the easiest way to move on was to start a new database file. I apologize to the people who joined and added content. Please join again. I hope to release the code very soon. It could be a bit tidier.

I've added the code to the wiki. Use at your own risk, and no derisive laughter allowed.

Alyce's RB WikiUpdated. 'May 27 added page history and ability to revert 'May 27 added admin ability to delete page, includes history deletion 'May 27 no longer allows deletion of admin account or home page 'May 22: added user ability to modify email and password. Code: runbasic.wikispaces.com/runWikiAWCurrently, the only wiki-type syntax it understands is the single-square-bracket link from Carl's original code. If you want to format stuff, you must type the HTML tags into the editing pane. I'm still considering whether to add more understanding of wiki syntax. Neal has added quite a lot to his version.

I think I'll make it impossible to revert locked pages. They'd need to be unlocked first. Also thinking about allowing preview of page history. As it is now, selecting a page from the history causes the page to revert to that version. Nothing is lost, since it can always be changed back to the most recent version.
I'm also REALLY wondering about wiki markup language. Am I the only one who thinks it is just as easy to remember the tag <b>bold</b> as it is the tag **bold**?
Maybe some buttons that, when clicked, add tags for bold, italic, headline, list, horizontal line, etc. ? The user clicks the "bold" button and gets this added to his edit pane
<b>Bold Text</b>
The user clicks the "horizonal rule" button and gets this added to his edit pane:
<hr>
I guess it would work like the forum's posting page.
Still thinking.
Comments welcome.

I added the buttons that allow a user to insert some HTML tags. I might add more buttons. Run BASIC's ability to print an HTML string makes formatted wiki display really easy. I added the ability to preview a page before saving it. There's a bug in the history/reversion routine. I have not yet updated the code on runbasic.wikispaces.com/

Hi Alyce, I like the history stuff - I must steal that for runWikiNG ;D I'm also REALLY wondering about wiki markup language. Am I the only one who thinks it is just as easy to remember the tag <b>bold</b> as it is the tag **bold**? I think the main advantage if wiki markup vs html is it's easier to type (ie. tags are generally the same character repeated) - also wiki markup is meant to be more readable in plaint text form. On the other hand it's a hassle to remember the wiki codes and it restricts the formatting you can use to whatever the wiki author decides to support (which can be a good thing sometimes

Alyce, I haven't yet tried your version but am now looking forward to it. I'll give it a whirl after your next set of updates.
I just started playing with Neal's and having never posted on a wiki (didn't have any idea how to do it) I sure am having fun with it. It's a very nicely done program. After visiting his page to see how the syntax works, I'd say that even with my limited knowledge of html commands, the <b> </b> commands are still more natural. But, the wiki syntax is catching on with me. I showed some "non-computer" people how to add pages and some simple syntax commands and for that group of users, I think the wiki syntax fits in pretty well. For most formatting, all they have to do is bang on a key a few times and walla, bold text or larger text or horizontal rule or whatever.
I also want to thank both of you for the effort you've put into these programs and allowing everyone to freely use them.

Hi Alyce, I like the history stuff - I must steal that for runWikiNG ;D Erm, well, I, um, "borrowed" part of it from your runWikiNG. Of course, if there is any crumb of useful code, it's open source, so feel free. I'm going out of town, so I haven't time to post the updated code, but will do so next week. This stuff is fun! John, thanks for your comments. Now that you've begun "wiki-ing" you'll be a convert, I'm sure! If you aren't a member of the community wiki, do join and share! runbasic.wikispaces.com/

Update Jun 18, 2009. No longer allows external links. Now used double square braces for wiki links. Now understands some wikitext markup. My Run BASIC WikiCode here: runbasic.wikispaces.com/runWikiAWEdited to fix spelling. BASIC has a 'B' in it, but no 'G'. ;D
